What Is This Plant?
Monday, December 6, 2010 at 5:04PM Help! We're stumped! We can't identify these plants and need your help. A common and/or botanical name would help and then we can insert these pictures into our plant database.
Plants Seen in Peru:
This beautiful fern-like plant was seen on the hike up to Waynapicchu

This plant was seen at Machu Picchu and has attractive lavender flowers. I would guess some type of
terrestrial orchid, a very large one at that. This reached six feet tall.

These next 3 plants were seen in the Amazon Jungle part of Peru. They look as if they could have potential as house plants.

This may be a spiral ginger (Costus species). I think it would be hard to identify the genus without seeing the bloom.
I have been able to grow Costus spicatus in San Antonio quite easily. In fact, it survived last winter's low temperature of 16F.
