A wonderful tree for the landscape. Very drought tolerant, survives all droughts, even prolonged ones. Bright rosy orchid-like flowers 2-3 inches long bloom all summer. Foliage is willowy shaped. Can grow to 15 feet tall.

This is an easy to grow evergreen tree in San Antonio. It's large, strap-shaped leaves add a tropical interest to the landscape. The leaves stay clean, ie, no edge browning or leaf spots, for years. However, they can shed, so it's best not to plant by the swimming pool. Non-descript flowers appear in January. If the weather is not too cold, they will turn into fruits that ripen to a dull orange by April-May. These fruits are quite tasty, but contain several large seeds. A tough, wonderful tree that can be utilized as a corner foundation planting, individual speciman, or an evergreen screen to block the view from those pesky neighbors. It will grow 15-20 feet tall.
